INSET Training

A programme of personal and professional development
The increasing demands of modern life can lead to significant stress for lecturers, teachers and young people. The Peace Foundation Network has been working for several years with pupils, staff and students bringing simple self help techniques that can transform pupils' lives. Whilst some of the work has been in other parts of the country, the recent focus has been in Sheffield where twelve schools are currently running training and programmes funded by Education Action Zones and Mental Health projects.

The programme offers a number of effective techniques and strategies to increase personal health and well being, to achieve inner calm, to shift negative attitudes and improve relationships. These can be used on a personal basis, to support individual students in need, or for group training.

Techniques taught include

  • Full body relaxation
  • Meditation
  • The use of breath to change emotions
  • Visualisation
  • The value of recognising positive qualities
  • The use of affirmations to turn around negative situations

The Trainer, Claire Finka, has previously worked as a secondary teacher, youth worker, and trainer. Currently she works within a number of schools in Sheffield, both primary and secondary running courses for pupils and training for staff. She provides courses for the Sheffield City Achievement Plan, and INSET days. Claire is also a qualified yoga teacher running classes for North East Derbyshire and in schools by request.
