Programmes for young people

Available Programmes at Primary Level

Peace programme

Whole class lesson – 1 ½ hrs
Key focus – health and well being,
Content – relaxation techniques including breathing, meditation, visualisation, sleep advice and work with affirmations.
Materials – affirmation card plus CD to support home practice
Suitable for

  • key stage 2 pupils
  • Study/exam support dealing with stress/SATS/transition for Y6
  • SEAL/PSHE/Citizenship
  • Healthy Schools Health and Well Being

6 week Juniper programme - small group work 6 – 8 students

Focus – Inner peace, peace with others, peace with the environment. Pupils encouraged to practice techniques at home.
Reduces stress levels, improves self confidence and relationships with others
Suitable for whole class split into 4 groups. Especially helpful for

  • Disruptive pupils
  • Bullies and bullied
  • Underachievers
  • Shy or unhappy students

Peer massage

Focus – improved relationships, reduced stress levels.
Child to child simple clothed massage routine to head and back.
Suitable for all ages, small group work or whole class.

Yoga - Sessions for staff or pupils

Extended schools programmes

  • Parent workshops
  • After school sessions

Staff training

  • Introduction through INSET half day or twilight sessions for Teachers and Classroom Assistants
  • Two day training for class teachers.
  • In depth training through participation in the 7 week programme for Learning Mentors and other support workers. School nurses may also be interested.

The Peace Foundation Network has a long history of work in schools and a number of very positive evaluations have been completed over the years including Sheffield University, Department of Health and Related Research and Lancaster University (primary pupils) and a community psychologist (secondary pupils). A Longitudinal evaluation has recently been completed.
In the Sheffield area over 20 schools have participated; many on an annual basis.

Programme Fees – work with pupils

£175 per day, £100 half day

Plus travel and resources for students, from £1 to £6 per head according to the programme.
